The Naked Possum is an eco tourism
gem situated at the edge of the Kahurangi forest in Golden
Bay, New Zealand. Nestled in idyllic bush surrounds at the
base of the Whakamarama mountain range we overlook the Kaituna
river and the entrance to the beautiful Kaituna
Walking Track.
Our mission is to support the
control of the possum
(a destructive pest in NZ) in order to ensure that the magnificent
native rata trees in our local forests are preserved. This
in turn to ensure that our unique native song birds are once
again free to proliferate and fill the forests with their
melodious music.
We offer an eco tourism experience that
will ignite your own passion to preserve our native New Zealand
forest & birds and inspire you to linger on awhile to:

The Naked Possum adds value to the possum
buy buying in skins from trappers contracted to pluck the
fur for the now lucrative fur/merino clothing trade. We then
tan those de-furred skins and turn them into a natural leather
product from which we create a variety of stunning furnishing
and fashion items.
